How to

Need even more people to see your petition?

Every day, our technology team works to make the Change.org toolset even better. Each of our brand new features and enhancements are inspired by feedback from people like you.

When talking to Alan about his petition to help people affected by loan debt, he described how easy it was to set up his petition. “I wrote the petition message, added an image and identified the person who could make the decision I was asking for.”

His petition was launched in a matter of minutes, and he shared it on Facebook and Twitter.

“I’ve gotten some signatures from Facebook friends. I’ve also shared my petition on Twitter. Sharing it gave me a good start. But I really need more signatures to win. I wished there was more that Change.org could do to help me get more signatures.”

We hear feedback like this all the time from petition starters like Alan. And with more than 100 million people using our platform to sign and share the petitions they care about, we knew there was more we could do to connect those people with petitions like Alan’s.

That’s why we launched a tool that allows petition signers to support a petition with more than just their own signature. By chipping in to promote a petition, a supporter can help a petition be seen by far more people, and get more support.

Here is what it looks like to chip in to promote a petition on Change.org:

Let’s assume the supporter chooses to chip in. This is what the supporter sees next:

When a supporter clicks “preview your ad” an image like this appears:

The last step is to confirm payment. This is what it looks like:

When a petition is promoted, that petition will reach people beyond standard social media sharing. This is a way to spread a petition outside your own network to reach hundreds or thousands of new supporters.

Promoted petitions can go on to gain hundreds or thousands (sometimes even millions!) of more signatures. For more information visit our FAQ page.
